FoodForwardSA is a Non-Profit Organisation specialising in the redistribution of food to the underprivileged. They reuse edible surplus food from manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers and ensure that this food enables the provision of millions of meals annually, by hundreds of Beneficiary Organisations, to the most vulnerable people - children, orphans, abused women, unemployed youth, those living with HIV/AIDS and the aged. At least 85% of FoodForwardSA's Beneficiary Organisations undertake skills development, education or remedial activities.
One FoodForwardSA beneficiary is Little People’s Den Educare Centre in Milnerton. This pre-school serves disadvantaged children from the surrounding areas whose parents cannot afford to pay pre-school fees. The centre aims to provide foundation-phase education to these children, ensuring their early development is not compromised. In addition to this, they provide their learners with adequate nutrition to aid the learning process. Partnering with FoodForwardSA has freed up funding for the school to take the children on monthly educational excursions around Cape Town, further enriching their learning experience.
